It seems hard to believe, but here it is: I actually managed to finish a second quilt this summer! I started making the quilttop during the Easter holidays and finished it right after the summer holidays. That's probably a speed record for me.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguf5km0d6saiuBEtUyLgAdzLw1W1fDBZzJFiAVFa3SAD3zkLYRn562RIrArRQ68782l4IApUKrsKFvp2_YhCQdazoLVMONjFox3JaYk41e84EcZu7Wctb_E-mMBYngb7hqywgA1IBqaJA/s1600/IMG_2776+klein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="1280" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguf5km0d6saiuBEtUyLgAdzLw1W1fDBZzJFiAVFa3SAD3zkLYRn562RIrArRQ68782l4IApUKrsKFvp2_YhCQdazoLVMONjFox3JaYk41e84EcZu7Wctb_E-mMBYngb7hqywgA1IBqaJA/s640/IMG_2776+klein.jpg" width="640" /></a> This really is the simplest design possible. The squares are 1.5" finished. It's the first time I tried a smaller square and it does make a difference. It looks more like postage stamps :-)<br />
<br />

The binding is a black Kei Honeycomb fabric and the backing a extra wide
version of Newsprint by Carrie Bloomston. It is the very first time
I've tried an extra wide fabric and this print and I must say I was a
bit dissapointed by its quality. The weave is quite loose. Is that
typical of those extra wide backing fabrics perhaps? <br />

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The quilt was handquilted with white DMC thread in the simplest quilt pattern possible. But the overal effect is quite pleasing.</div>

The size of the quilt is 140cm x 200 cm, just big enough for a single bed or a very generous lap quilt. I wanted to make it a bit bigger but lacked the energy to start cutting and sewing again.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now up to the next one! I'm actually making a sketch for a quilt, inspired by our recent trip to Sweden and all the beautiful flowers and Scandinavian design we saw there. And I might have bought some fabric there that would be perfect for a Scandinavian summer quilt...</div>
<br />Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04213974468026119462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4916180756807234105.post-19607734287612486442018-08-06T10:15:00.000+02:002018-08-06T17:24:48.320+02:00A finished EPP quilt<div style="text-align: justify;">
Exactly 13 months ago, I decided to "do something" with a jelly roll I bought many years ago (snippets from American Jane). I wrote about it in <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.com/2017/10/an-english-paper-piecing-project.html" target="_blank">this post.</a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After handpiecing the quilt, it was handquilted with perle cotton and finally a border was added, also by hand. I think I can rightly say this is a 100% hand-made quilt!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTouBXxHLXVwEe_8WiJmvnrlYnFivJ4M3Mi9COfnUsIbyuT8ubNLVGRVvq9apIwTOwcYs6CYFgN208rBRZowBFnXseBkcIUjIoiefBkHAmFqKxyzMDStZEAtfhNJagc710CUe-QrZKL1A/s1600/IMG_2743+%2528klein%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="672" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTouBXxHLXVwEe_8WiJmvnrlYnFivJ4M3Mi9COfnUsIbyuT8ubNLVGRVvq9apIwTOwcYs6CYFgN208rBRZowBFnXseBkcIUjIoiefBkHAmFqKxyzMDStZEAtfhNJagc710CUe-QrZKL1A/s640/IMG_2743+%2528klein%2529.jpg" width="420" /></a></div>
<br />
The quilt measures 152cm x 210 cm, so it is quite a generous size.<br />

I added a border in a blue fabric. You might be able to see that it is actually piping.<br />

For the back I chose a yellow flower fabric to stay in the sunny theme.<br />

<br />
I'm calling this quilt "Grandmother's summer garden" because of the sunny colours. Although this summer, my garden looks more or less brown instead of the usual bright green...<br />
<br />

<br />
This is my first finish of 2018, but I hope my new Juki sewing machine, that I will try for the first time today, will make it possible to add one or maybe two quilts to this list!<br />

And so I selected 80+ blue fabrics (some not much bigger than scraps) to cut into 2 inch wide strips. <br />
<br />
After cutting all the fabrics, and sewing them together, and cutting them in strips, and sewing the strips together again to make the blocks, I discovered I had not enough blocks to make a big quilt. And so I started the whole process once again: take the fabric, iron, cut, fold, put away. 80 times, two Sundays. And I had yet to start piecing.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The squares are 1.5 inch finished, the fabrics are both old and new, many Denyse Schmidt and many different others too. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTjFGSK3NUJSJVjvAqudF96FQAHnhVNOFK8pQhbYIXWgQQtX4R3yXXAQ6OXVUtP920Tl2JF-1yF7Cp50mbEdqI-Yr6E0ZAcNczDaUZm3z3pte3QgV9asaDep8ZBpBtgALZ2UPs3w9N0rg/s1600/IMG_2729+%25282%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTjFGSK3NUJSJVjvAqudF96FQAHnhVNOFK8pQhbYIXWgQQtX4R3yXXAQ6OXVUtP920Tl2JF-1yF7Cp50mbEdqI-Yr6E0ZAcNczDaUZm3z3pte3QgV9asaDep8ZBpBtgALZ2UPs3w9N0rg/s640/IMG_2729+%25282%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A postage quilt looks simple, and it is, but there is so much to cut and piece and cut again and piece again, there seems to be no end to it! Luckily for me, this weekend is a long one with a national holiday, so I had four whole days off from work! Those were well used to finaly piece the whole quilt.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The quilt measures 140x200cm, which means is is big enough to use on a
single bed. Or as a very generous lap quilt. We'll see. Now I have to
find a backing fabric (something grey I think) and start quilting.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRSgdTTmDnaPrLjy_gcGv34rrLYtVpVxZcxBXYCkJ1Yckj_XGgK-Zpk2iN2ljs8u7s343_3y4YHWve8_G3oQ7F7zKSVE5fYF7AG4kiyx7ATeu3yOKi-s-Hj8YXXDOXa4iUxY6088dMec0/s1600/IMG_2611+%2528klein%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="768" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRSgdTTmDnaPrLjy_gcGv34rrLYtVpVxZcxBXYCkJ1Yckj_XGgK-Zpk2iN2ljs8u7s343_3y4YHWve8_G3oQ7F7zKSVE5fYF7AG4kiyx7ATeu3yOKi-s-Hj8YXXDOXa4iUxY6088dMec0/s640/IMG_2611+%2528klein%2529.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I worked all summer on this project, my first ever hand-sewn quilt top, and found it quite relaxing to do.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg32yKJtl3p3IlTJi8Cad0TxfQPzxqw6Y50KjV_8_Nw9jnPJAweoxencbOXwdx0cbvMdlFykjDBpjoej1pdAcnnBMLABozvbNOR3dY48dh5VbPnREo1FczwO8tgEMsB0PRUTVsOJVxWoIk/s1600/IMG_2610+%2528klein%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="1280" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg32yKJtl3p3IlTJi8Cad0TxfQPzxqw6Y50KjV_8_Nw9jnPJAweoxencbOXwdx0cbvMdlFykjDBpjoej1pdAcnnBMLABozvbNOR3dY48dh5VbPnREo1FczwO8tgEMsB0PRUTVsOJVxWoIk/s640/IMG_2610+%2528klein%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Once it was finished, I added a striped border in yellow and white.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUadaeV7FhOcCWTvhJ8bJSGVbua-wSGRnQ22t270433A1TW3cCKoipf92AJ9Nmr7DIeQiHwYmq7crVS0FOKQKUKYtCj24zOV9W0I0HUK7ePBSrDo7GDqK9CD6P3BDoXqsy2VPOUf49YJg/s1600/IMG_2633+%2528klein%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="912" data-original-width="1280" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUadaeV7FhOcCWTvhJ8bJSGVbua-wSGRnQ22t270433A1TW3cCKoipf92AJ9Nmr7DIeQiHwYmq7crVS0FOKQKUKYtCj24zOV9W0I0HUK7ePBSrDo7GDqK9CD6P3BDoXqsy2VPOUf49YJg/s640/IMG_2633+%2528klein%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYj6MQgQz9Xo9OI5KB9hkiM2qxb7H_JLr82gKQhuxUuhVgltvlyxR8XUrBNbEawAUzq971eLYjBY1qRYT5sKV6p5JJs-p9zNM69EDwEm94dUacU8MpYynRWuEHImIYgOC5bhpkVjRAVfA/s1600/IMG_2635+%2528klein%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="1280" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYj6MQgQz9Xo9OI5KB9hkiM2qxb7H_JLr82gKQhuxUuhVgltvlyxR8XUrBNbEawAUzq971eLYjBY1qRYT5sKV6p5JJs-p9zNM69EDwEm94dUacU8MpYynRWuEHImIYgOC5bhpkVjRAVfA/s640/IMG_2635+%2528klein%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The EPP-part was handsewn on the border.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWM7ronPzYBopsd6KaSzfxE6TYI9KFtbz1CqnUBYnW83ShrEk6FLHOFxtidcud5C1tyP9jIKotIa6HAcKEHR6BRf8k9d-QA_fLEuyT7m1wOqsotLJ9Vl8G6TkOk7m_UBVQ1vhrp6SNAyg/s1600/IMG_2628+%2528klein%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="768" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWM7ronPzYBopsd6KaSzfxE6TYI9KFtbz1CqnUBYnW83ShrEk6FLHOFxtidcud5C1tyP9jIKotIa6HAcKEHR6BRf8k9d-QA_fLEuyT7m1wOqsotLJ9Vl8G6TkOk7m_UBVQ1vhrp6SNAyg/s640/IMG_2628+%2528klein%2529.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
And this is how the whole quilt looks:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This afternoon, the quilt was basted and is now ready for (hand)quilting, which will probably take all winter. I'm already looking forward to it! <br />

After two years of (machine)sewing and then handquilting, I reached the final stitch some time ago, and here are some pictures.<br />

As I have written before, this quilt was made from a pattern published in Quilts Japan. Unfortunately, as I do not read Japanese, I can not tell you the name of the author of the pattern. <br />

<br />
It was the first time I added borders to a quilt and I am so pleased with the result that I will definitely do this again. Quilting the border was a long labour of love though, and I'm not sure how often I'll be able to repeat this proces on other quilts.<br />

I'm now working on my very first hand sewn hexagon quilt, another long term project. For some reason, those always seem to attract my attention.Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04213974468026119462noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4916180756807234105.post-11729011424731334302017-06-05T20:59:00.000+02:002017-06-05T20:59:32.687+02:00A travel sewing kit<div style="text-align: justify;">
A month ago, it was my daughter's birthday. And as she started a new job half a year ago, I thought it would be a good idea for her to have a compact sewing kit at her disposal in her desk. In case of wardrobe malfunctions, you never know. And so I started to think about what to buy for the sewing kit.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- scissors, of course; </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- thread, of course, and in different colours, just in case;</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- needles;</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- a needle threader; </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- buttons, also just in case;</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- elastic, again just in case;</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- a thimble;</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- pins and safety pins;</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- some other stuff.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The layout is pretty straightforward. I just put all the stuff I bought on a piece of fabric to decide on the size of the sewing kit. I knew I would make a folded model with an inserted zip, but that was all I had decided on before beginning.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPthhbdicB1eQWC3tmIrcxJ_3pU9hTimNYNqpTGY5xA9B7daoNKbzGBaZWJk3ZvSGn4FdRB5jCm-L1r4XwRgEGvPL6tIK2OZiV6L0FFNN0igmjWENu3hVMwrKqVPSNsC6xvTQ4Z6Keyrg/s1600/IMG_2565+%2528klein%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="654" data-original-width="1010" height="414" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPthhbdicB1eQWC3tmIrcxJ_3pU9hTimNYNqpTGY5xA9B7daoNKbzGBaZWJk3ZvSGn4FdRB5jCm-L1r4XwRgEGvPL6tIK2OZiV6L0FFNN0igmjWENu3hVMwrKqVPSNsC6xvTQ4Z6Keyrg/s640/IMG_2565+%2528klein%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Pretty quick, I decided to use leftover pieces of batting and quilt the fabric. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

After that, it was time to make the compartments for the different stuff. I chose a Denyse Schmidt flowery fabric for this. And a geometric Denyse Schmidt fabric for the zipper part and the scissors. My daughter likes flowers, but I did not wat to overdo it.</div>

In <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.be/2016/08/from-curtain-to-baby-quilt-van-gordijn.html" target="_blank">my previous post</a>, I talked about how my colleague, who became a grandmother, asked me to make a quilt from some leftover curtain fabric for her granddaughters baby room. After making the quilttop, I was at first determined not to spend too much time on this quilt. After all, there is a small baby waiting for it and I don't really have the time to hand-quilt it. Wouldn't it be easier to just machine-quilt straight lines through it? Stitch-stitch-stitch and stitch-stitch-stitch. Done. You see? I can actually finish a quilt in just two weeks! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUEcCsbgGTWWdRrIwtfMxbpRpjDRbLFVRNT0QGHCS4BKbPktDaJpdKdZ2mPF33-I760n3iAJ3VtFQCAYIk39oCQNLNR44GpbthU1WM4AIjfl9Z0hffbCxjnU1yXJxrPwKrSEM4lHV-ofU/s1600/IMG_7566bis+%2528klein%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUEcCsbgGTWWdRrIwtfMxbpRpjDRbLFVRNT0QGHCS4BKbPktDaJpdKdZ2mPF33-I760n3iAJ3VtFQCAYIk39oCQNLNR44GpbthU1WM4AIjfl9Z0hffbCxjnU1yXJxrPwKrSEM4lHV-ofU/s640/IMG_7566bis+%2528klein%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Then I had another look at it. And I thought: naaaaah, not good enough. It needs something more. It needs hand quilting, no, it was actually screaming for some hand quilting. And so I obliged the screaming quilt.</div>

For the back, I chose a new Ikea print, very colourful and bold but the same style as the curtain fabric. It was a bit thicker though and that made it harder to hand quilt. The binding is made from a Denyse Schmidt fabric and also hand sewn.</div>

A colleague of mine became a grandmother and asked me to transform some the leftover curtain fabric for the new baby room into a baby quilt. The fabrics are blue, gold and orange and have a modern design. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZsVtgqMx3kcxzRgRAdvSNiLB4-NChQy8biAHzGe5-YHTbbPaOSWc2JSqIF09lXO-qOmpHBqglX16j0IVcIbz6WrbaQtPn3iMYeM0FvWdFaaFHKQnlDi8hh45B5rjZK9RZ2xiMYq3nueA/s1600/IMG_2292bis+%2528klein%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="547" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZsVtgqMx3kcxzRgRAdvSNiLB4-NChQy8biAHzGe5-YHTbbPaOSWc2JSqIF09lXO-qOmpHBqglX16j0IVcIbz6WrbaQtPn3iMYeM0FvWdFaaFHKQnlDi8hh45B5rjZK9RZ2xiMYq3nueA/s640/IMG_2292bis+%2528klein%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The two fabrics ont the top are the fabric curtain, the other fabrics are the ones I pulled to complement them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As we have had some excellent weather lately, I brought my sewing machine down from the attic (where it was far too hot to work on a quilt) and worked in the garden. What a joy that was!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxkjby0KJJWypMvgvehwU4tmb-nC56_SoFvseETjswRitzmhxM8tBKtBiD9JnV8PtdSUaicX1fMPhsLqDsse_ZTl36DohyGt4SLeL0nVPmleco1XgNX3ZcpnWxUDLX9FN_x8uc9LNcOlU/s1600/IMG_2272+%2528klein%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxkjby0KJJWypMvgvehwU4tmb-nC56_SoFvseETjswRitzmhxM8tBKtBiD9JnV8PtdSUaicX1fMPhsLqDsse_ZTl36DohyGt4SLeL0nVPmleco1XgNX3ZcpnWxUDLX9FN_x8uc9LNcOlU/s640/IMG_2272+%2528klein%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I chose strong, modern designs to go with the curtain leftovers, because the last thing I wanted was a quilt that looked as if there was an extra curtain lying on the bed or the floor, and simply added stripes of fabric.<br />
<br />
This was a first selection of fabrics and layout. <br />

<br />
And this is the final selection. I ended with using the border fabric to do just that: make a border
around the quilt. This tied all the fabrics really nicely together. The size is abourt 120x160cm.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The wide stripes of fabric are the leftover curtain bits, as are the borders. The other fabrics are from Katie jump rope by Denyse Schmidt and from Echo, Lotta Jansdotters first collection. I like both of these collections so much that I always hesitate to use them, but they looked so great with the curtain fabric that I didn't think twice about it.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
All I have to do now is wait for the temperatures to go down, so that I can baste the quilt without fainting. </div>

The blouse was packed in a plastic bag and when I opened that bag with scissors, I cut right in the left sleeve of the new blouse. Ouch. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjACD7LMNqXF6XAJjohmwNbIvVPQmxGAopUTqDBRRy859jPchJSbrPmvHTM471AC7oPd3R4MWXiQPNqu8yXS5ds3xr1iqTeO47zK3gULrf_Lam56eqthKFG-6OjkFubhl2dUWLmtNQjxcg/s1600/IMG_2250bis+klein.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjACD7LMNqXF6XAJjohmwNbIvVPQmxGAopUTqDBRRy859jPchJSbrPmvHTM471AC7oPd3R4MWXiQPNqu8yXS5ds3xr1iqTeO47zK3gULrf_Lam56eqthKFG-6OjkFubhl2dUWLmtNQjxcg/s640/IMG_2250bis+klein.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
As you can see, the cut is almost an inch long, so not really small. It's impossible to wear this blouse without fixing the cut.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHoID0b9pzYKYkvkWaoSoqf-Ev4uXIdh5za877NSG0PDnCxRqaUAWQZ2UQmeU_lU1JGt-ar4Q4n4lXpqEsFsvxsnzVz7UlpPJoeUgEcF5Sl3Ac-1CwwhY_nBV55jG3tDEYNu51a3utqtQ/s1600/IMG_2252bis+klein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="438" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHoID0b9pzYKYkvkWaoSoqf-Ev4uXIdh5za877NSG0PDnCxRqaUAWQZ2UQmeU_lU1JGt-ar4Q4n4lXpqEsFsvxsnzVz7UlpPJoeUgEcF5Sl3Ac-1CwwhY_nBV55jG3tDEYNu51a3utqtQ/s640/IMG_2252bis+klein.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
After sulking for half a year and pondering about how to fix this, I opted for cutting right throught the sleeve and insert a lace strip. I chose between three options: the first is a simple cotton strip. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj35aMddCK2HEasaLmfGGR31iR0j3kMZeO8zMFC_DPGALLV2XyuTtKAcNK7ZJgsTG7JM2orj8_JJtfAi8GOjNmIb7y5dtptVWyopnVth2Rg8MSiMDMKWhowlgD8oCx7BoFzhfNeIvNS5P0/s1600/IMG_2253bis+klein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj35aMddCK2HEasaLmfGGR31iR0j3kMZeO8zMFC_DPGALLV2XyuTtKAcNK7ZJgsTG7JM2orj8_JJtfAi8GOjNmIb7y5dtptVWyopnVth2Rg8MSiMDMKWhowlgD8oCx7BoFzhfNeIvNS5P0/s640/IMG_2253bis+klein.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
It was ok, but really white as opposed to the slight off-white of the blouse. Hmmm, not sure.<br />
The next one is a small lace strip that I really like, but it's quite stiff and I'm afraid it will scratch my arms every time I move. A definite no, this one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfPev1Bq6RhYYRvzsdEbTcLbS888DUjbinJIsUVMmA42u8ntvMs4WtsowqBlfLwxXHJky4GMIPsGr2Yx8BsVe1Rn4DsDgvmysJfi0pn_KDg-a9lS3UFmlc9x19L3bUUZCjTTphdjw8txc/s1600/IMG_2255bis+klein.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfPev1Bq6RhYYRvzsdEbTcLbS888DUjbinJIsUVMmA42u8ntvMs4WtsowqBlfLwxXHJky4GMIPsGr2Yx8BsVe1Rn4DsDgvmysJfi0pn_KDg-a9lS3UFmlc9x19L3bUUZCjTTphdjw8txc/s640/IMG_2255bis+klein.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The last one is a broader lace strip, and a lot softer than the second one. The colour is also exactly right. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Doesn't look too bad...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPMSfutlRMVYQmcZhyphenhyphenWpDGGkL-8Ne3h79ZXG59iCZ3sAh9VQgTjIRTgrtEBqb0RbwHNOxklj7Fwm7_7ubn61qSw4qjlbNSjcH3jWUBM9x3pspQGGuBFCpLaRMhz8I0a6J_cgnT1V9xVxQ/s1600/IMG_2260bis+klein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPMSfutlRMVYQmcZhyphenhyphenWpDGGkL-8Ne3h79ZXG59iCZ3sAh9VQgTjIRTgrtEBqb0RbwHNOxklj7Fwm7_7ubn61qSw4qjlbNSjcH3jWUBM9x3pspQGGuBFCpLaRMhz8I0a6J_cgnT1V9xVxQ/s640/IMG_2260bis+klein.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
And because I could not do only the left sleeve, because that would be really silly, here is a picture of the blouse with both sleeves altered.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXWnjQ5FasFqdnnoKDjRV2k0e2cSugN2ERo3w8zeDWpR4-8TYkG8JB5VL-LAJsGhjMFma6gCCJLrrfSfPyvWZ3-872pZyxMtaDLnysZstU-2xECKnaRjzpGuNFLCkZeyNlDwotb0IeHZY/s1600/IMG_2263bis+klein.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXWnjQ5FasFqdnnoKDjRV2k0e2cSugN2ERo3w8zeDWpR4-8TYkG8JB5VL-LAJsGhjMFma6gCCJLrrfSfPyvWZ3-872pZyxMtaDLnysZstU-2xECKnaRjzpGuNFLCkZeyNlDwotb0IeHZY/s640/IMG_2263bis+klein.jpg" width="480" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And since I had some leftover lace, I decided to alter the bow bit.</div>

<br /></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As always, I did not really have a plan before adding the orange peels. No plan means no measurements. This resulted in not being able to continue the orange peels around the corners, because to do that, I should have made a plan before sewing and as always, that was too much to ask. I solved this by adding a flower in avery corner, using leftover flowers and leaves from my <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.be/2014/06/the-outer-border-de-buitenste-boord.html">HST quilt</a>. It is a scrap quilt after all.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</i></div>

The quilt measures 130cm x 170 cm now, so I want to add a a second border. How that will look, is still a mystery to me. Ideas are welcome :-)<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
This quilt is the result of my participation in a quiltbee (you can read my previous posts on it by clicking on the tag "quiltbee"), but I haven't worked on it since 2014. I wanted to add borders, and decided to add a first border made of an orange peel pattern. I planned to appliqué all the orange peels on the border, but after spending some frustrating hours on six peels with equally frustrating results I adopted a different technique: I used Vliesofix to iron the peels on the fabric.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here you see the difference between the appliqué peels (lower row) and the Vliesofix ones (upper row).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</i><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
After ironing them on, I sewed all around them to be sure they won't come loose. This is how it looked before sewing around...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br />
And this is how the quilt looks now, with one side of the first border added.<br />

Many more orange peels to make, so I'll focus on this project the next weeks.<br />
<br />
<i>Er zijn nog veel blaadjes te maken, dus dit project zal me zeker de volgende weken bezighouden.</i><br />

Not being able to sew past the year hasn't prevented me from buying fabric and so I had the perfect fabric in stock: Jessica Jones' Time Warp collection.<br />
<i><br /></i>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUUA6vwUAyNdKTxBM8pihPnt0ppBlJhcOprmU5xB26d1qg4LeeJXFYlq7d7dTf_xso__4fj6RUhPpqMblUJBAqLNfcFgzp5RSuLVieTWbnrOCdtHobf9DeiacIY0xG77U13B0BJunnEOg/s1600/IMG_2204+%2528bis%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUUA6vwUAyNdKTxBM8pihPnt0ppBlJhcOprmU5xB26d1qg4LeeJXFYlq7d7dTf_xso__4fj6RUhPpqMblUJBAqLNfcFgzp5RSuLVieTWbnrOCdtHobf9DeiacIY0xG77U13B0BJunnEOg/s640/IMG_2204+%2528bis%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Barkcloth was new to me, but I was very pleasently suprised. After prewashing the fabric, it became even softer while retaining a certain glow.<br />
<br />
<br />
I wanted cushions with piping, and looked for a tutorial. This one, from <a href="http://oontje.blogspot.be/2012/03/tutorial-voor-een-kussen-met-paspel-en.html">Oon </a>(in Dutch, but with pictures) is the one I used. And so, after first spending some time on buying zippers and making the piping, I was able to make the actual cushions.<br />
<br />

Putting the zipper in wasn't too difficult (although I did have to redo it once or twice) and I'm very pleased with how the zipper and the cushions turned out.<br />
<br />

Now I have to have my sewing machine serviced, because I experienced some issues with it. Hopefully, it won't be too serious because I'm really looking forward to sewing and quilting again.<br />
<br />

About a week ago I was contacted by Audrey, who blogs at <a href="http://quiltyfolk.blogspot.be/">Quilty Folk</a>, to participate in the Around the World Blog Hop. This means I'll answer some questions about quilting, just as many quilters around the world did before me (if you go to Audrey's blog, you can read her answers and go to the person who tagged her and so on and on).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, here we go! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><i>1. What quilting/sewing thing am I working on?</i></span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I suppose the name of my blog is a giveaway to my biggest sin: I always work at at least 10 projects at the same time and finishing them is not my strongest point.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
Lately, I have concentrated on my HST-quilt.</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/13012840793" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="A finished quilttop by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="A finished quilttop" height="640" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2380/13012840793_ae22d60653_o.jpg" width="513" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14322343375" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="quilt, quilt, quilt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="quilt, quilt, quilt" height="599" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5475/14322343375_ab93ef09b7_o.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14242620699" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="a quilting template for the outer border by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="a quilting template for the outer border" height="518" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5482/14242620699_e46c4e54cc_o.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
I really, really like this quilt and am therefore handquilting it. This means that I've spent these last few months mainly quilting this quilt and not working on my other projects.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Like my beequilt, that is next in line now that I figured out how the borders will look</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/10561113993" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Working on my beequilt! by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="Working on my beequilt!" height="640" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5536/10561113993_4815d98a1e_o.jpg" width="496" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
And then there is the <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.be/2014/04/rediscovering-winding-ways-quilt.html">winding ways quilttop</a>, just waiting to be quilted</div>

<br />
<i><b>2. How does my work differ from others of its genre</b></i><br />
<br />
I don't think it does differ and in a lot of cases I'm 100% sure it doesn't differ, since I often use a pattern. If I like a quilt I see in a book, I make my version of it. Like the HST quilt I'm currently working on, or the windmill quilttop I made last year. Both are copies from quilts I saw in a magazine (pattern included in the magazines). I even used the same colour schemes. So I don't consider myself to be a creative quilter, but I do make good copies.<br />
<br />
<i><b>3. Why do I write what I do?</b></i><br />
<br />
You could say I'm a slow blogger because I only blog when I sewed or quilted something and didn't forget to take a picture. When there's no time for quilting, there's nothing to blog about and it would be very boring to write about my life.<br />
<br />
<i><b>4. How does my creative process work?</b></i><br />
<br />
I wrote about my "creative process" a short while ago, in <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.be/2014/07/la-donna-e-mobile-making-quilt-using.html">this blog post</a>. Let's just say it's very much a trial and error method.<br />
<br />
<br />
Phew, that was the questions part. Now it's time to introduce you to the blogger who agried to write a post on Monday September 29. Meet <a href="http://slootjesschilder.blogspot.be/">Lotje</a>, one of the most creative quilters I know. She paints, prints <i>and </i>quilts! And contrary to me, she plans her quilts and has a real creative process, not just trial and error. So go check out her blog, you'll discover a real artist at work!<br />

Why is it that time always seems to fly during the holidays? Last time I looked, it was July. After what seems ten seconds, it's September. And all I did -patchworkwise that is- was handquilt my HST quilt. Hours and hours of quilting resulted in a finished border! Yay!<br />
<br />
Joepie!</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXXHREhT03wo2hkVrsvDF4lK7K_mzHNG8rlSOrDgV4XO7PevgEYMug5YQb_SV3BL37GS5qd9hpXSoHPaE8MQkS-9CWFMkSn3oJzgK7m3X0sRVAY3MXyeHx4ELihSirtMXMPu9jr7Kc93s/s1600/IMG_1616bis+klein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXXHREhT03wo2hkVrsvDF4lK7K_mzHNG8rlSOrDgV4XO7PevgEYMug5YQb_SV3BL37GS5qd9hpXSoHPaE8MQkS-9CWFMkSn3oJzgK7m3X0sRVAY3MXyeHx4ELihSirtMXMPu9jr7Kc93s/s1600/IMG_1616bis+klein.jpg" height="506" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm quilting the second border now, and after that I'll add the binding. But that will have to wait a while. Because at the moment, I'm using other tools than my sewing tools. These tools to be precise:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkWxB21klALvu68CnZZG-Su3cu_wlser3hoiNyQdRh4yRgXEs-YndTUx2Sb8p5X9okLt-OtDrdGz1B5SoaboviRF4-EBrdsjXwrQzWgPkz76IIXd3Smuz1HuXJYWqzeYhBu4hbqKQH1fo/s1600/IMG_1621+klein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkWxB21klALvu68CnZZG-Su3cu_wlser3hoiNyQdRh4yRgXEs-YndTUx2Sb8p5X9okLt-OtDrdGz1B5SoaboviRF4-EBrdsjXwrQzWgPkz76IIXd3Smuz1HuXJYWqzeYhBu4hbqKQH1fo/s1600/IMG_1621+klein.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Because changing wallpaper in a 90-year old house is never straightforward and always brings some suprises. Like this one<br />
<br />
Zoals deze</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
or this one</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>of deze </i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
After two days of hard work, this is how it looks now. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhamXDBR4cR9cfqte-nG9cA1A5ZtBikF5Btvq0cI4Tyc5L8FNH8qeMBvGoFoWs3CaQPOBOyIpYimL0Pxe1Tn4wgfOe1qxuMTBgeVuO3qM7ee9_AxT5XpIXvqtug1LncozdmnLGYmInPFO4/s1600/IMG_1623+klein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhamXDBR4cR9cfqte-nG9cA1A5ZtBikF5Btvq0cI4Tyc5L8FNH8qeMBvGoFoWs3CaQPOBOyIpYimL0Pxe1Tn4wgfOe1qxuMTBgeVuO3qM7ee9_AxT5XpIXvqtug1LncozdmnLGYmInPFO4/s1600/IMG_1623+klein.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So you see, I am hard at work, but my HST quilt will have to wait just a wee bit longer.<br />
<br />
<i>Je ziet dus: ik zit niet stil. Maar mijn HST quilt, die zal nog even moeten wachten.</i> </div>

We visited the Kaisersvilla in Bad Ischl, where emperor Frans Jozef (Sisi's husband) signed the declaration of war to Serbia in 1914, the start of World War I.<br />

Have you ever heard of the Rigoletto method for making a quilt? No? Well, maybe that's because you're one of those people who plan their quilts. You make a design, choose the colours and the fabrics, count how much fabric you need, buy the exact amount of fabric, make time, cut the fabric, make the quilt, done.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm not like that. I usually start with a plan in mind and start cutting my fabric, but then I discover I don't have enough fabric, so I change my plan, don't like the second fabric, change my plan again, order new fabric, wait 3 weeks for the fabric to arrive, oops don't have time to work on it once the fabric is there, change my plan again, and so on and on and on. As I insist there is a method to this madness, I'm calling it the Rigoletto method. Verdi already knew it: la donna è mobile.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Ik ben niet zo.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/j1XKMqHViwk?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The downside to the Rigolleto method is that it takes ages to finish a quilt. The upside is that there are plenty of surprises in the process of making a quilt. Some are good, others less so, but they all need creative solutions. And that is exactly what I like about it.<br />
<br />
</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At the moment I am using this method on my hexagon quilt (deliberately of course) and as you can see it has changed a lot over the past weeks.<br />
<br />
</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is how the quilt started...<br />
<i>Zo zag de quilt eruit in het begin... </i><br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14199144703" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="And now for something completely different... by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="And now for something completely different..." height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7429/14199144703_5d2e28945e_o.jpg" width="416" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
And then I did this...<br />
<i>En dan deed ik dit.... </i><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14378270631" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="auditioning different background fabrics by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="auditioning different background fabrics" height="462" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3885/14378270631_9b060d49be_o.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
And after looking at this picture in Brigitte Giblin's book, I'm trying something else again...<br />
</i></div>
<br /></div>
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14643958854" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Using the Rigoletto method to make a quilt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="Using the Rigoletto method to make a quilt" height="480" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2938/14643958854_11b62d9b62_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This fabric in the middle? Hmmmmm...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Deze stof in het midden? Hmmmm...</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14459540668" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Using the Rigoletto method to make a quilt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="Using the Rigoletto method to make a quilt" height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5564/14459540668_606aa1de4b_o.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Or this one?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Of deze? </i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14645731922" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Using the Rigoletto method to make a quilt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="Using the Rigoletto method to make a quilt" height="584" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2904/14645731922_91303e2530_o.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Or maybe this one?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Of misschien wel deze?</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14645731062" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Using the Rigoletto method to make a quilt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="Using the Rigoletto method to make a quilt" height="640" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2917/14645731062_08e69f5e94_o.jpg" width="596" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I like the last one, let's try it with a border.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Die laatste vind ik leuk, eens zien wat het geeft met een boordje er rond.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14623169426" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Using the Rigoletto method to make a quilt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="Using the Rigoletto method to make a quilt" height="562" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2934/14623169426_4c9ea14574_o.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I'm still searching for the perfect layout, I'll probably make changes again and it 'll take months before it's finished, but I'm so enjoying this method! And you? Are you a planner or a "donna"?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

Making a skirt seems to be addictive. As soon as my first skirt was finished, I started a second one. This time using an African wax fabric by <a href="http://www.vlisco.com/home/en/page/305/">Vlisco</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</i></div>
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14507668805" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="making a second skirt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="making a second skirt" height="563" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3924/14507668805_8853a91ccd_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14484565896" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="making a second skirt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="making a second skirt" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3894/14484565896_8b2010b10e_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14321218027" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="making a second skirt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="making a second skirt" height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5522/14321218027_5a67e891a6_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I want to know which model will suit me best, so now I'm making a skirt with pleats, just like in this dress I bought last year. 8 pleats in total and all of the 5 yards will be used making them. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14484564756" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="making a second skirt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="making a second skirt" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3908/14484564756_5c9b9330fa_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I didn't finish the skirt this evening, but managed to insert my first invisible zipper, using <a href="http://byhandlondon.com/blogs/by-hand-london/11628353-inserting-an-invisible-zipper-the-definitive-tutorial">this tutorial</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Daarvoor gebruikte ik <a href="http://byhandlondon.com/blogs/by-hand-london/11628353-inserting-an-invisible-zipper-the-definitive-tutorial">deze tutorial</a>.</i></div>
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14506529532" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="making a second skirt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="making a second skirt" height="267" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3879/14506529532_6b7110857c_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Still some handsewing to do and finish the hem, and then this second skirt will be ready to wear.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04213974468026119462noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4916180756807234105.post-16435498129202728502014-06-23T18:17:00.000+02:002014-06-23T21:34:21.243+02:00A Mexican skirt - Een Mexicaanse rok<div style="text-align: justify;">
Making a dress is high on my list of things I want to do this year. I have never made a dress before, so I thought it wise to start with a skirt. No pattern needed, just follow the tutorial from <a href="http://www.blogforbettersewing.com/2009/08/sew-full-gathered-skirt-part-one-make.html">Gertie's blog</a><a href="https://www.blogger.com/null"> for better sewing</a>.<br />
<br />
Geen patroon nodig, gewoon de tutorial volgen van <a href="http://www.blogforbettersewing.com/2009/08/sew-full-gathered-skirt-part-one-make.html">Gertie's blog for better sewing</a>. </i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I bought 3 yards of fabric at a discount and was pleased to see when it arrived that it was a bit heavier than the usual quilting fabric. I like that for a skirt. It's a Mexican floral pattern, a bit old-fashioned but very summery.<br />
<br />
</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKIUl7DLbMpfZsL-u7wBq1yjVw96a4gHwGjhf2PbcfMVRrXjpxR_mUlGDsbDJzJTPdOQDWjDxjeC1ciP-H5imbOAfQ7qUZFfnwfQyS74ZZs7KOG-aGrvGtPFXRiRUwIp8YTynk2antEto/s1600/IMG_1533bis+klein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKIUl7DLbMpfZsL-u7wBq1yjVw96a4gHwGjhf2PbcfMVRrXjpxR_mUlGDsbDJzJTPdOQDWjDxjeC1ciP-H5imbOAfQ7qUZFfnwfQyS74ZZs7KOG-aGrvGtPFXRiRUwIp8YTynk2antEto/s1600/IMG_1533bis+klein.jpg" height="370" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
All I needed to do was cut 2 rectangles: one for the waistband and one for the skirt. I made a change from Gertie's pattern because I didn't insert the zipper all the way up till the end of the waistband. I decided to close the waistband with a button and insert the zipper below the waistband. It doesn't look too bad for a first time, if you don't look closely.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14466735286" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="I made a skirt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="I made a skirt" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3879/14466735286_77baed03b8_o.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the skirt.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Dit is de rok.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14303026229" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="I made a skirt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="I made a skirt" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3902/14303026229_488cf2dd51_o.jpg" width="555" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
And this is how it looks on me. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>En zo ziet het eruit als ik hem aanheb.</i> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14488377684" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="I made a skirt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="I made a skirt" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3850/14488377684_a0ce569aed_o.jpg" width="420" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14303027359" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="I made a skirt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="I made a skirt" height="640" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2905/14303027359_82f803f946_o.jpg" width="412" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14303005170" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="I made a skirt by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="I made a skirt" height="640" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5077/14303005170_c79213f553_o.jpg" width="358" /></a></div>
<br />
If I'm honest, I have to admit that it looks better on the picture than in real life. I feel like an exploded flower. Maybe a different pattern (with flat folds) would be better for my pear-shaped body? That's what I'll try next time. And if that turns out to be better, I can always undo this one and start all over again. The joys of home sewing!<br />
<br />
</i><br />
<br />
And to accentuate even more the "exploding flower" feeling, here is a last picture of the skirt, with petticoat, and photobombed by the cat! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />

At the moment, I'm jumping between two quilts: the yellow hexagon quilt and the HST quilt. Since I'm waiting for extra fabric for the hexagon quilt, it's back to the HST for now.<br />
<br />
</i><br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht-oK2bSmKxU9Azv3G4YO4HYIQymxlAY3XekcjGGXB8kRIKu12BpwxwY7UBYtUd72GSMxny60COOYaSG9s5V1281l7qPsbx5nVbZMuovfi9UEBiF3_sLVYFQW7fZVCPX_KH2L0_ioxF3Q/s1600/IMG_0976bis+kleinklein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht-oK2bSmKxU9Azv3G4YO4HYIQymxlAY3XekcjGGXB8kRIKu12BpwxwY7UBYtUd72GSMxny60COOYaSG9s5V1281l7qPsbx5nVbZMuovfi9UEBiF3_sLVYFQW7fZVCPX_KH2L0_ioxF3Q/s1600/IMG_0976bis+kleinklein.jpg" height="488" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As you can see, the HST quilt has 3 borders: a very
narrow red one, a broad white one and finally a blue one. I have been
busy quilting the white one these past weeks, but the blue one also
needs to be quilted. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the quilting template I made according to the pattern from Quilts Japan.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Dit is het quilttemplate dat ik maakte volgens het patroon van Quilts Japan.</i></div>

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14242620699" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="a quilting template for the outer border by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="a quilting template for the outer border" height="518" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5482/14242620699_e46c4e54cc_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
And this is how it looks on the back from the quilt with a first corner from the outer border quilted. I like it, although this means a lot of extra quilting hours will be needed.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Today was auditioning time for some other background fabrics for the yellow hexagon quilt (see also <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.be/2014/06/if-if-if-als-als-als.html">this </a>and <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.be/2014/05/and-now-for-something-completely.html">this </a>post), solids this time. A bit more neutral, but maybe also a bit duller. Left on the picture is eggshell, right snow and in the middle a piece of the blue and brown dot fabric. I hope the difference shows on your computer. Colours are so difficult to get right on a picture.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Vandaag werden weer enkele achtergrondstoffen uitgeprobeerd, ditmaal effen stoffen (zie ook <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.be/2014/06/if-if-if-als-als-als.html">deze </a>en <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.be/2014/05/and-now-for-something-completely.html">deze </a>blogpost).
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14195043260" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="auditioning different background fabrics by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="auditioning different background fabrics" height="337" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5313/14195043260_376322fb78_o.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here again on a snow background. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Hier nogmaals op de witte achtergrond.</i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also tried a different border fabric, ecru with red stripes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Ik probeerde ook een andere boordstof, ecru met rode strepen.</i></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
And here with the white (snow actually) background. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Daarna was het de beurt aan de witte (sneeuw eigenlijk) achtergrond.</i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUHe3f-0BNknB1YpXceTzVZaALzFKDDHpdYWf2ymNdcEEH20CNdA-fiqnE8rugjyyO17_-zMF7V9VdNy8_bXewnWEaSg-OGi3s08-yL9OFCeo98z0lTF2Qj-2LOmmPHhhezEsgGTiKKmM/s1600/mosaic9cb394cae789b65d26a6ac964a8d1ce182b31c2c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUHe3f-0BNknB1YpXceTzVZaALzFKDDHpdYWf2ymNdcEEH20CNdA-fiqnE8rugjyyO17_-zMF7V9VdNy8_bXewnWEaSg-OGi3s08-yL9OFCeo98z0lTF2Qj-2LOmmPHhhezEsgGTiKKmM/s1600/mosaic9cb394cae789b65d26a6ac964a8d1ce182b31c2c.jpg" height="321" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With the snow background, I definitely like it better with the striped border.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Met deze achtergrond vind ik het absoluut beter met de gestreepte boord.</i></div>
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14378426431" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Auditioning different background fabrics by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="Auditioning different background fabrics" height="411" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3866/14378426431_a285386193_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But because the snow background is still very white, I searched for a more yellow fabric in my stash. I think, but am not 100% certain, that this Kona cotton eggshell from Robert Kaufman. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoSy8gZZyhqVlljdrkfEGXcGU11GXdYwtS4JU6y3N1mBiMYBmt0d2StzpeiSV_i5phnEU5xctKh3ZaYjFgwFUz8K7pTEozL2myhgCGHNqZdA5rfBYzWgqMvGDiSO2VXI8pnD7edqFSpN0/s1600/mosaic5a78bac8811638af64c4c2f49e974850780a20b9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoSy8gZZyhqVlljdrkfEGXcGU11GXdYwtS4JU6y3N1mBiMYBmt0d2StzpeiSV_i5phnEU5xctKh3ZaYjFgwFUz8K7pTEozL2myhgCGHNqZdA5rfBYzWgqMvGDiSO2VXI8pnD7edqFSpN0/s1600/mosaic5a78bac8811638af64c4c2f49e974850780a20b9.jpg" height="322" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's very hard to tell the difference between both solid fabrics. Maybe the next picture gives you a better idea: the top 5 rows are snow, the bottom 5 rows eggshell.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14381601235" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="auditioning different background fabrics by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="auditioning different background fabrics" height="428" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5572/14381601235_ccd346d427_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, what do you think: dark border + dots, or striped border + eggshell? Or striped border + dots? <br />
<br />
<i>Wat denken jullie: de donkere boord + de stippen, of de gestreepte boord + eierschaal? Of gestreepte boord + stippen?</i></div>

Spending a lot of time quilting, as I did these last weeks, also means spending a lot of time thinking while you<i> </i>quilt. These are some of the things I thought about: renovating my house (the things I would change if I had the money!), going on long holidays (the places I would go to if I had the time!) and making a quilt extraordinaire (the breathtaking quilts I would make if I had the talent!).<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In real life, all this thinking translated into buying new wallpaper for my daughters room (cheaper than renovating the house), booking one week of holidays in Austria (it's a start) and trying out different options for the quilt that is now on my "design wall" (1% inspiration and 99% transpiration is my fate).<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is how this project looked when I <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.be/2014/05/and-now-for-something-completely.html">blogged about it</a> almost a month ago:<br />
<i>Zo zag dit project er uit toen ik er bijna <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.be/2014/05/and-now-for-something-completely.html">een maand geleden over blogde</a>:</i> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It hadn't changed much these past weeks because I wasn't very happy with it. I seriously thought about removing everything from the wall and putting it back in a drawer for another couple of years. But I decided to give it another try.<br />
<br />
</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of the things that bothered me, was the lack of a neutral space, so I tried to find a solution to that. I'm not sure white would work, so I used a light blue fabric with brown dots.<br />
<br />
</i><br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14186349299" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Trying something else by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="Trying something else" height="461" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3890/14186349299_69f9a54c02_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
There's still quite some doubt about the dark border fabric. If I would use it, I would make sure only the beige center part would be visible, not the dark blue part. And seeing this picture, maybe I will give this a try with off-white fabric instead of the blue dots.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14349895146" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Trying something else by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="Trying something else" height="540" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3916/14349895146_d3fdd1e3be_o.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
Here you see the new layout on the left, and the old one on the right of the picture. I do prefer the new layout. I think. Tomorrow I'll try yet another version.<br />
<br />
<i>Hier is de nieuwe layout links en de oude rechts. Ik zie echt wel liever de nieuwe. Denk ik. Morgen probeer ik nog een andere versie. </i><br />
<br />

Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will be this quilt. After weeks of quilting, I quilted just one of the four borders in a grid pattern. Every 25 cm of progress take me about 3 hours. The border is roughly 8 meters in total, so that's 96 hours of non-stop quilting to quilt this border. Hmm, maybe I should have done these maths before deciding on hand quilting.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Elke 25cm vooruitgang neemt ongeveer 3 uur in beslag.
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My quilting frame is quite large, so that the first row of the HSt's are also in the frame when I quilt the border. That made me decide to start quilting the HST's too. After all, they need to be done and it provides some welcome change from the grid pattern.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The HST's are quilted with three straight lines in the patterned fabric, and a quilt pattern in the white fabric. I made plastic templates for these, to make it easier to transfer the quilt pattern to the fabric. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the first one (the black lines are on the plastic template, not on the fabric)...<br />

Since <a href="http://surelynotanotherproject.blogspot.be/2014/03/a-finished-hst-quilttop-een-afgewerkte.html">finishing the HST quilttop</a>, I basted it and started handquilting. Yesterday, I finished quilting all the horizontal and vertical lines of the central part. I still need to quilt each and every one of the HST's, but I'm postponing that part.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14252715913" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="handquilting.... by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="handquilting...." height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5114/14252715913_9c216cd296_o.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14045880769" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="handquilting.... by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="handquilting...." height="640" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2936/14045880769_73f1093fcb_o.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Now that the quilt is stable, I prefer quilting the first border. It's the first time I'm quilting a grid (1,5 cm between each line) and I especially bought a blue, water soluble fabric marker to trace the lines. I was very relieved to see that the blue lines did indeed disappear after applying some water to the lines.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14232291324" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="handquilting.... by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="handquilting...." height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5494/14232291324_edf42928c1_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14045931010" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="handquilting.... by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="handquilting...." height="514" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2912/14045931010_5101268e55_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Quilting continues, slowly but surely. Still, this will take a while. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

When I started quilting again about three to four years ago, I visited a quilt show and saw a quilt made by <a href="http://www.salgarollo.be/index1.htm">Atelier Salgarollo</a>, a quilting shop here in Belgium. I didn't have a lot of fabric yet at the time and so I bought the complete ready-to-cut package, naively thinking it would only take me a couple of weeks to make the quilt since everything I needed was included. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fast forward to today, three years later ( I think, I actually lost count of how long ago exactly it is). Although my taste of fabric has changed a lot during these past years, I still really like the border fabric, a deep and rich yellow flower fabric.<br />
<br />
</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14179035124" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="And now for something completely different... by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="And now for something completely different..." height="400" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7359/14179035124_1d35ba1525_o.jpg" width="397" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is rather stupid to just keep it in my closet, so out it came and I started cutting the fabrics. I didn't follow the instructions for the original quilt because I want to make a hexagon quilt but I'm not so sure now that was a good idea. Oh, well, can't change anything about that anymore.<br />
<br />
</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/13992369020" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="And now for something completely different... by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="And now for something completely different..." height="480" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2896/13992369020_ed0baedd58_o.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is how it looks for the moment. Bit of a mess. I'll add a smallish dark blue border and then a large border with the yellow flower fabric and hope it'll look less messy once those are added.<br />
<br />
<i>Zo ziet het er momenteel uit. Nogal rommelig.

After nearly two years, the winding ways quilttop is finished! The layout for this quilt had to be altered after I found there wasn't enough of the background fabric and it was impossible to find more. So I opted for a different design than I originaly had in mind, but I think it turned out ok.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Na bijna twee jaar is de winding ways quilttop eindelijk af!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/14087530432" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="winding ways quilttop finished by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="winding ways quilttop finished" height="640" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2898/14087530432_d51232b541_o.jpg" width="455" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The quilt is made with a ruby red fat quarter pack from Oakshott. The background fabric is a Westfalen shot cotton. There's still some of the Oakshott fabrics left, enough I hope to bind the quilt with.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54996395@N04/13904044220" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Winding ways quilttp^finished by Anne, on Flickr"><img alt="Winding ways quilttp^finished" height="612" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7438/13904044220_0a03e5ab35_o.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The quilt measures 175cm x 130 cm (about 69" x 51"). Now I have to figure out how to quilt it. Maybe handquilt with perle cottton?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>De quilt meet 175cm x 130cm. Nu nog nadenken over het quilten. Misschien handquilten met coton perlé?</i></div>
