A finished scrappy quilt - een afgewerkte restjesquilt

One of my New Years resolutions for 2013 was turning some of the quilttops that were lying around on my attic, into real, finished quilts. I made a mosaic of 4 quilttops that in my eyes really deserved to be finished.

I managed to finish the first of these in January (the upper left one), to the delight of my daughter who now has a warm winter quilt. I have to confess that she often has to share it with me when I'm watching tv.

In February, I started the mental preparation necessary to bring me in the right state of mind to be able to finish a second quilt. This scrappy quilt has been lying around since 2011. Its pretty big (71" x 71") and I was not really looking forward to machine quilting this thing. Sure it's faster, but what a struggle to get all this fabric through the machine. I find it actually a lot easier to hand quilt it.

So that's exactly what I did. I used perle cotton (again) in orange (again). The fact that I completely miscalculated the amount of perle cotton I would need to quilt my single girl quilt 2 years ago, means that orange will have to stay my favourite colour for some time to come.

The quilting was kept really simple. I followed the pattern of the quilt and quilted through every second line. The Free Spirit fabric for the back was a bargain at 6 euro/metre.

The colours of this quilt are pretty insane. But that's the great thing about it: you can just throw all your scraps together and the result will still be a fun looking quilt.
A finish!

Speaking of Flickr: I'm very dissapointed in their new version, especially because they now completely neglect the community aspect of the site. Shame on you, Flickr.

Foei, Flickr.
